FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

It is alright to have a light meal at least half an hour before practice. Otherwise if you practice when you are hungry, you may not be able to focus your mind well. It is best not eat after practice, unless you feel hungry.

It is fine to take a warm shower shortly after practicing Qigong. Do not take a cold shower. Cold water constricts the blood vessels and meridians and prevents the smooth flow of Qi blood. This is the same principle why a cold pack is good to prevent swelling when a person sustains an injury.

You will gain the benefits even with a few minutes of practice each day. Qigong activates the circulation of Qi in your body helping you to relax your body and mind. You will have better focus and more energy. If you make Qigong part of your daily routine, your overall well-being will be phenomenal. You will ward off disease and live a long, healthy life.

If you are not used to standing for a long period, you may note a feeling of numbness in your feet. Do not give this much thought, instead focus your mind on the practice. If you continue to practise, Qi will flow evenly to your feet and the numbness will disappear. The same applies if you feel numbness at your palms and fingertips.

This is a common phenomena. You are not the only person who cannot feel Qi. Try this experiment. Using both hands, bring the last segment of your fingers and the fingernails together. Slide your fngers up and down quickly, rubbing them. Continue to rub for about a minute before you stop. Separate your hands apart. Close your eyes and relax your hands and fingers. Note any sensation around your fingers and your palms. Gently move your fingers by cupping and relaxing. Note that sensation as well. You may also try to move your palms towards each other. Note the sensation. If you can note any sensation, you can feel Qi. As you feel your Qi, your mind connects with the observation of the sensation and you become totally relaxed and calm. A point to note is, even if you cannot feel any Qi while practising Qigong, you have already gained the benefits of unblocking any clogged Qi, stabilizing the smooth flow of Qi in your body. Harmonizing the balance of Qi in this way will guide you towards to good health, vitality and strong mental focus.

Being sensitive to Qi and the Qi field depends on several factors:-
The skill level of the teacher
• The environment, whether it is conducive or not
• The number of people in the Qi field
• The emotional balance of the practitioner
If the teacher is skillful, he can build a strong Qi field. If the training ground is a place of regular practice, the Qi field already exists. An open, harmonious and beautiful natural surrounding will have stronger Qi. The number of people practicing will magnify the Qi field. If the practitioner cannot relax due to emotional factors, tiredness or stress, he will find it difficult to be sensitive to Qi.

Practicing Zhineng Qigong will increase your physical fitness, heal diseases and enhance your health, prolong your life and enhance intelligence and mental capability. Improving the circulation of Qi in your body will alleviate pain, restore hormonal balance, eliminate muscle tightness and soreness, improve your immune system, heal common and chronic diseases.

When you practice Qigong, your muscles will strengthen but you do not build muscles. You will have more vitality and energy to carry out many activities without feeling tired. A body builder’s muscles resist Qi flow because of it’s rigidity and not being agile and relaxed. It is not a healthy situation.

When you smile, you relax your facial muscles and stimulate the brain to release endorphins that makes you feel happy. This internal happiness generates positive Qi which enhances your well-being, improves your immune system and ensures the health of your internal organs. Talking expends Qi, especially if your speech is disorganized and the topics move from one to another quickly. A scattered mind is an unhealthy state of mind. There is an ancient saying, “mouth open will deplete the Shen Qi.” Shen Qi is the Qi of your consciousness. It is best to smile more and talk less.

You lose Qi when you talk a lot. That is why you need to pay attention to keep drawing Qi to yourself, by focusing inside your body every now and then. You lose Qi the most when you try to show off, when you are arrogant, assertive and pompous and when you are disrespectful of the people around you.

This is a common phenomena. The strong Qi field created in a group healing session puts you into a comfortable, relaxing and soothing Qigong mode. When the mind and body is not occupied with any other thoughts and distractions, the body’s rhythm is smooth and harmonious making you feel sleepy. When you are absolutely relaxed, you will feel sleepy. When you return home, the Qi field returns to normal (i.e., not as strong), and you become alert and wide awake.

Your level of DaoDe is determined by your values. Whatever you value will change your perspective in life. It is your choice to live in accordance with DaoDe and it can be cultivated progressively. It is without a doubt and in accordance to Maslow’s heirarchy of needs that we need to fulfill our basic needs. It is unfortunate that many people have limited their life activity to accumulating material wealth. When we do that, we lose our freedom to make decisions consciously and in line with DaoDe. Instead, most decisions will be biased towards more material gain. Cultivation of DaoDe is to provide service to the community. Yes, it is possible. I have met and am aware of many people with high level of DaoDe. They are my inspiration.

Learn to go with the flow. Rome was not built overnight. When you are aware that a negative emotion has arisen, understand that the emotion will impact your organs negatively. You do not want that to happen. Shift your thought immediately. Drop the negative emotions. If you can do that, you will have clarity of thought. You can listen to your audience with an impartial mind, with no judgments and regain your harmonious nature. This is training your Qi to be unaffected by any negative external stimuli.

If the third party is an experienced counselor, he can help to calm your emotions. More often than not, when the emotion arise, your counselor is not around. You are the best person to learn to calm yourself down. But most people feel that they have a right to get emotional and may even thrive on the emotions. This is a very bad and sad state as the person will lose his Qi.

The exercises on Chapter Five on dynamic movement will help you to clear your mind and to calm you down.

Performing a service to society reflects your value. This is good. But do not do it with the mindset of feeding your ego, getting respect and attention. The motive is misguided and energy will be wasted. Practising Qigong will help you to relax, gain more confidence and open your heart unconditionally balancing your emotions and harnessing more energy.

Qigong is acupuncture without needles. Qigong activates the flow of Qi within the energy systems, the channels and meridians in your body. Acupuncture treatment follows the same meridian framework. In Qigong, you practice and heal yourself, whereas you have to go to an acupuncturist for treatment.

A person who is better at visualization will get into the Qigong state a lot faster than the one who is poor at visulization. The image in his visualization is clearer and more distinct and this will help to facilitate changes inside the body. He is able to gather and harness Qi effectively. When he experiences Qi in his body, he should discard the imagery and focus on just being an observer, observing the Qi and the changes of Qi inside the body. This inner perception will merge closely with the mind. The clearer you observe, the quieter you will get. The quieter you get, the finer your observation. This is a high level practice.

In fact, everyone has the capability to have ESP. You are born with it but you have not used it so you have lost it. When your mind is still, calm and quiet, you can listen to your intuition. Your intuition can sense something that is in the future and alert you. That is your ESP. When you practice Qigong often enough, you have the ability to quieten your mind very quickly and come to a state of clarity. This story will illustrate that having ESP is achievable.
The current President of Zhineng RenXue Association, Mr. Lee runs a business of conducting soil investigation. There was a project in Ipoh (a town in Malaysia) where his men were drilling boreholes. The site was near a hill. At 40 metres deep, the drill bit broke off. The manager of the project made a call to Mr Lee just to inform him of the status of the project. Instinctively, Mr Lee requested his men to evacuate from the site, to move their machinery away from the site. This is a very unusual instruction. The drill bit breaking off is a common phenomenon. The drill bit comprise some diamond bits and is an expensive piece of equipment. Normally, the staff would try his level best to recover the bit and it is usually recoverable. When Mr. Lee gave this unusual instruction, his manager was surprised and had to ask several times to ensure he heard the instruction correctly. Admittedly, this was the first time Mr. Lee had given this kind of instruction. The men managed to evacuate the machinery from the site. When the last man was leaving the site, the place was hit by an avalanche of rocks. If they had not evacuated from the site, they would have been killed or seriously injured. On reflection, Mr Lee does not know why he gave this kind of instruction. But at that time, this was the perception and strong feeling he had inside of him – ‘leave the place quickly’. Is that not ESP? His intuitive response that day had saved many lives as well as his expensive machinery. Mr. Lee gives credit to his Zhineng Qigong practice for his intuition.

Obesity is not because it runs in the family. It is because no one ‘runs’ in the family. You need to move your body. Yes, with Qigong exercise, you can trim down the fats in your body. The movements described in Chapter Five for the spine and wall squatting will make you lose your body fat. For those who are obese, they will easily see a marked improvement if they do the routine daily. That being said, it will be a challenge for them to do the movement, so people who are obese will have to start slowly and gradually. Try to perform the routine 5 times, then rest. Repeat the 5 times routine daily for a month. When doing this becomes a breeze, increase the number of times gradually. The key is not to overexert yourself and to remember to relax when you are doing Qigong. This doesn’t mean that people who are skinny will continue to lose weight. Qigong exercises regulates the Qi in your body normalizing the body’s physiology. If you are underweight, put in a message of ‘getting plump’, and you will put on weight.

When you are relaxed and your mind is calm, you can perceive Qi flowing smoothly inside your body. At the moment of perception, your mind and Qi integrate as one. When you continue to observe quietly, you strengthen the interaction of your mind and Qi. With just a thought, you can gather more Qi inside your body. It is advisable to look deeper and deeper into your body.

Qigong practice helps to strengthen your mental stability and your ability to handle any external stimuli. When you practice correctly, over a period of time, you will learn how not to be disturbed by any external provocation. When you have clarity of thought, you will understand that the ‘noise’ is out there. When your mind is inside, you will not feel any agitation whatsoever. If you feel, you have not reached this stage, just put your focus on your lower DanTian.
